Fortune Telling Bird
This Bird was designed and built to be the main character in a fortune telling machine, the project is currently on hold. The "Fortune Bird" has seven movements: body turns, body moves up & down, wings open, neck extends, head moves up & down, beak opens, and top head feathers spread. The operating strings travel up through the legs.
The intended routine: Coins are placed into a slide at the front of the cabinet to activate the machine. Curtains open to reveal the bird standing in moving layers of water. The bird raises its head, looks around, opens its wings and screeches. At the back a fish rolls up and down in the water. The bird screeches again. The fish comes up out of the water near the front, its mouth opens and eye rolls back. The bird reaches into the fish's mouth and pulls out a coin. The fish rolls back into the water, its tail flopping. The bird drops the coin into a funnel shaped tube near the front. The coin slides into a small dish at the front of the cabinet. The coin has a fortune stamped onto it. The bird screeches again and flaps its wings as the curtains close.
